Dear Parents and Students,

In Honsbridge, we offer an accelerated tuition program designed to cover the syllabus and how best to answer and score in the examination. Students at the age of 14 and above can achieve this by working hard and studying in small classes (maximum 16 students) with dedicated teachers who are specialists in their subjects. The pace of the lessons is rapid in order to cover the whole syllabus as well as revision. The students receive strong individual support because their teachers will build a rapport with them.

Honsbridge is pleased to have delivered successfully the accelerated Cambridge O Level tuition programmes to four classes of graduates in 2010 and 2011. The O Level Honsbridge graduates have attained remarkable O Level results and have enrolled in various Pre-university programs such as A Level Program in Taylors' College University, Methodist College, Brickfields Asia College, Monash Foundation Programs and A Level in Singapore Serangoon College.

For students who are aged between 14 and 17 year old, they will develop their language and academic skills to excel in the Cambridge O Level/ IGCSE exams in small focused groups.

Some students come from local schools after their PMR. These Form 4/Year 10 students need time to develop their language and academic skills, as such the tuition is designed to extend over 1 1/2 years or 2 years to prepare them for their IGCSE/O level examination. The pace of the IGCSE/O level tuition is rapid in order to cover the whole syllabus as well as revision. The students receive strong individual support because their teachers will build a rapport with them. The tuition covers the syllabus and how best to answer and score in the examination.

We offer an accelerated tuition designed for students who are at Form 5/Year 11 or have done a year or the equivalent of a Cambridge IGCSE/O level course. The tuition also suits students who want to re-sit a number of subjects, perhaps in combination with some new subjects, which can be completed in less than a year. The accelerated tuition normally takes 1 year or more. The tuition covers the syllabus and how best to answer and score in the examination.

Dear Parents, Students and Guests,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome all my beloved students, supportive teachers and parents to the inauguration of the Honsbridge Science Enrichment Presentation 2011. In Honsbridge, aside from delivering quality O Level tuition, we hold high regards for the extra-curricular activities that we offer to students. Through the Science Enrichment curriculum, it is Honsbridge’s commitment to develop students for the love of science, the joy and benefit of learning science for the 21^st century, the knowledge century.

I wish to give thanks to the Science Enrichment Teacher in- Charge, Mrs Dana for mentoring the students and making this special event possible for the first time. Mrs Dana has played an important role in promoting the learning of science through Science experiments and presentation. Also to thank Mr Dominic for steering the students to complete the Science projects where needed. I will also like to thank all the parents for your interest and commitment to the youth of tomorrow. You have given our young an opportunity to develop their interest and potential in the exciting field of Science.

In this society and age, no discipline is as important as science. I like to believe so not just because I hold a Masters in Science from the Uni of Liverpool. But science and technology play crucial roles in the social and economic development of a country. For instance, there are many medical treatments of breast cancer due to breakthrough of science and technology that will give hopes to stay alive. For me, I have had the honour to be part of a dynamic R & D team in GSK to develop drug in the laboratory to production in a factory plant, in order to carry out clinical trials for the efficacy of the drug back in 2008. To all of us, what is even more important is that learning science will help us find answers in response to our changing human needs, for instance finding viable alternatives to the depleting reserves of crude oil.

Later on, we shall enjoy a variety of science presentations which are factual and ones that create theories based on experiments. We will see the culmination of hard work and courage that the students have to make the presentation possible for us. It is my honour to pass on the best wishes to all the students who have contributed to the success of the Honsbridge Science Enrichment Presentation 2011. Winning a science presentation competition is something to a great achievement, but more than anything else, as long as you have given the best to prepare for the Science Presentation and where learning experiences have occurred, you are all winners! Your exhibits exist, your experience has been learnt and you have gained exposure that not many have. You would also have learnt something about yourself; how well you can find and fix problems; how well you receive advice and lastly how to work as a team.

Today, I am proud to celebrate the success of your exceptional learning experiences in the Science Enrichment Curriculum proudly organised by Honsbridge. Congratulations in advanced to all students, you are all winners in my opinion for trying and experimenting.

I wish to see many more budding scientists in Honsbridge Science Presentation 2012. Please remember to nominate the presentation that you believe is the best. Cheers everyone!

It's the Mid Autumn Festival tomorrow. Here is wishing every reader a joyous occasion to tasting the delicacies of the month. At Honsbridge Academy, we are busy preparing the next cohort of O Level candidates for their upcoming O Level/ IGCSE exams in Oct 2011. Aside from the daily preparatory O Level classes, Honsbridge has been invited to run a Roadshow in the Kid's Expo at Sunway Giza.

At the Information Booth, visitors can learn first hand on the academic curriculum of the Fast Track Cambridge O Level Program. Namely the 1 Year Express Cambridge O Level Tuition Program for age 15 years - 17 years old. For students who are age 12 years - 14 years old, they will flow into the Cambridge Year 7 to 9 O Level Program for 2 years instead of 3 years. Thereafter, students in the Year 9 will lead to the 1 Year Express O Level exam tuition program.

Honsbridge Pioneered PE Fitness Test on the 7 Sep 2011

At the Physcial Education Centre on every Wednesday, Honsbridge has introduced the PE fitness test routine for all the students. The fitness test gives the added discipline required of all the students, students will receive a record of their personal fitness overtime and discover their strengths and weakness in a new fun way. Aside from the fitness test, the students would always have time to enjoy a heart pumping game of Futsal and Badminton.

New Semester Began on the 15 Aug 2011

On the 25 Aug( Thurs), Honsbridge delighted every student with the announcement of the Hari Raya Celebration on the 26 Aug (Fri). Honsbridge believes in giving students the strict discipline to excel academically and to have fun altogether during festive season. Each student also received a special green packet that Honsbridge prepared especially for the Hari Raya occasion. The Hari Raya Celebration that was held the next day would see students perform live of their favourite song and instrumental piece.

24 Aug (Wed), the PE routine started with Mr Arm at 8am weekly. The boys and girls who were fasting found the PE extremely fun and exhausting at the same time. Not a good combination indeed.

On the 20 Aug (Sat), we held the termly Parents, Students & Teachers' Meeting to review the Cambridge O Level academic exam results. The review gave the chance for the parents to review the exam papers with the students in the presence of the teachers. This was important to reinforce student's continuous expectation to improve and to avoid the weakness identified.

Under the Cambridge examination conditions, students have received feedback on where their weakness lie, how they can excel further during the termly Parents Teachers' Meeting (PTM) on the 13 Aug and the upcoming 20 Aug.

Examinations are followed by the long wait to learn about how one has done. We are pleased that for the 3rd batch of Honsbridge O Level graduates in May 2011, the culmination of students' hardwork and dedication from my team of teachers and I have reaped results beyond expectation!

In Honsbridge, we will start the new term on the 15 Aug 2011 by preparing the 4th batch graduating students leading to Oct 2011 O Level exams. My team of teachers and I are eager to work our magic on the students to push them through to achieve straight As.

To all the students preparing for the O Level exams in Oct 2011, I recommend the minimum 5Rs exam success recipe that i always tell my students.

R -Revise (the idea that needs to grow in YOU, act NOW)
R- Revisit (organising, reading, asking questions on the material by subject that you need to work on)
R -Rework (the key action word that most students fail to do until it's too late, reading will only get you a D, it's rewriting every single problem sums, essay and doing it right with accuracy and speed.)
R- Remember (this will come naturally if you have reworked all the sums. If it doesn't work, you are one student who needs more than one time of REWORK, do it again until u are getting A)
R -Results (You will get the A* grade you deserve!)

Exam preparation is not mucking about the limited time (8 weeks and counting down now) you have, complaining about what you do not have, but make full use of your resources to become a more competent academic. In the process, you rediscover your strengths and weakness.

Dear Parents and readers,

Greetings to you.

On this 19 June, it will be a year since Honsbridge held the inaugural Speech Day for the graduates. I hope that the graduates have embarked in yet another rewarding chosen academic and career pathway. For Honsbridge, we continue to prepare students to attain their success in the O Levels qualifications and to help them become independant learners. To cater for the growing student population, Honsbridge has fitted more classrooms in a shop that is 1 min walk away from the current premise. It is hoped that students and teachers will benefit from the bigger learning environment and facilities that come with it.

In line with tradition to give gratitudes to one's success, to award the graduates for their outstanding achievements and the journey we have shared with students. The workshop is suitable for parents and students who wish to find out the dynamic learning opportunity that Honsbridge provides for students age 12 and above (Year 7 to 8 /9 or Form 1 to Form 3).

Dear Readers,

All of our teachers and students have begun the new term on the 11 Apr 2011 with exciting events and new curriculum to look forward to.

Prior to the updates, we like to thank Mr Brian John Yim for organising and mentoring the students in music appreciation as part of the Friday Enrichment. Without Brian's guidance and encouragement, the students will not have the enjoyment and the new found confidence to sing in the choir.

Since the term has begun, Honsbridge has successfully organised a few events namely the Students' Academic Review with Parents (on the 16 Apr and 23 Apr) and the Go Green Tree Planting (on the 24 Apr). To to all the parents, students and teachers who have participated in these events, thank you for making the events.

Whilst all the students are busy learning new material in their Cambridge O Level syllabus, we have students who are busy revising for their May 2011 exam sessions. These graduating students are at the stage whereby extra classes and mock exams are the norms, it is our very hope that they receive all the support that they need to excel in their exams. Here is wishing all the students pass their exams with flying colours.

Honsbridge has also introduced the English Debate as part of the new curriculum, the Debate Appreciation is now part of the Friday Enrichment to engage students in critical thinking and public speaking in an assertive manner. We have been fortunate to have Mr Daniel Berdichevsky Founder of the World Scholar's Cup, who visited Honsbridge on the 6 May to promote the World Scholar's Cup competition to our students.

Students have since found even more joy and benefits in the English Debates and they are eager to enrol as team members to represent Honsbridge in the regional round on the 7-8 Jun (Tue-Wed) 2011. Our teachers namely Ms. Nurul and Mr David have explored many channels to train our students to prepare for the World Scholar's Cup competition. Students who are serious about registering in the competition have been asked seek approval from their parents. Kudos to all the teachers who continue to contribute in student character building through the English Debate Enrichment.

On top of the World Scholar's Cup Competition that we are actively engaging students to particpate, Honsbridge is also proud to advocate our students to Run (5km or 10km) for A Cause in the upcoming KL Marathon on the 26 Jun 2011. As the students' teachers, we are championing the students to raise fund for a cause. The students will not only gain a sense of social responsibility from achieving the Run for A Cause, a Certificate of Achievement from Honsbridge Academy will be awarded to all the students (Teachers included!).

This programme combines high quality language tuition with subject teaching and is designed for students leading to their exams in three* to four years. The programme consists of building a firm foundation in English, Mathematics, Science followed by an exam oriented study pathway to the IGCSE/ O Level exams in May or October / November annually.

Students typically need five IGCSE/ O Level exams at grades A to C to be sure of a place in the higher education of a good college. We are having a special intake for Year 10 and Year 11 entry on the 4 July 2011 (Monday).

This intake is suitable for students who are preparing to sit for the Cambridge GCE O Level/ IGCSE exam leading to May/ June or Oct/ Nov 2012 sitting. It is an accelerated tuition programme designed to cover the syllabus* and how best to answer and score in the examination. Students achieve this by working hard and studying in small classes (maximum 15 students) with dedicated teachers who are specialists in their subjects. The pace of the lessons is rapid in order to cover the whole syllabus as well as revision. The students receive strong individual support because their teachers will build a rapport with them.

Suitable for age 11 to 14 years old (Key Stage 2/3)

This workshop session is specially organised for parents and students who wish to find out more about Cambridge O LEVEL / IGCSE education. It is a fun learning session specially organised for students age 11 to 14 years old*. It is suitable for students who are currently in Form 1/ Year 7 in schools, as well as for students who are preparing for UPSR / Key Stage 2 Checkpoint exam this year.

The students will have the opportunity to experience Honsbridge O Level / IGCSE programme with Honsbridge team of passionate teachers for the following subjects:

English
Literature
Mathematics
Science
History

There will be academic lesson per subject - comprising speech & drama, group assignment, simple experiments & short quizzes.

It will be an interactive learning session for students who wish to experience the British way of teaching and grooming students to be a confident and an independent learner through class interaction, experimentation, and visual and tactile stimuli.

End of Term Easter Celebration & Japan Tsunami Fund Drive

Dear Readers,

Event: End of Term Celebration of Easter & Japan Tsunami Donation Drive
Date: 25 Mar 2011, Friday
Time: 16:30 - 20:00

We are pleased to share with all who have contributed to the Donation aid to Japan Tsunami, a total of over RM940 in cash was raised. All the funds will toward the worldvision.com.my. The donation drive was made successful by all the students, parents and friends who have come together for a common cause to raise aid for the victims of Japan Tsunami and Earthquake. Thank you all again. As part of recognising the great effort in raising the highest amount, we presented a prize to our student, Eu Jer. He has raised a total of RM120 by selling his tickets to his family and friends. Thank you all for contributing to the donation amounting to RM940.

Special mention was of Amanda, who is one of our junior students. She came
up with an idea to sell sweets as part of raising more donation. We supported her very own initiative immensely. The passion to help in one way or the other was tremendous and Honsbridge is proud to create a platform to drive the donation.

Along with the Donation aid drive, we have planned a series of activities to let the students' hair down on their last day of term. In Honsbridge, we believe in providing students various platforms to instil academic excellence and character development through effective lessons and extra curricular activities.

The students have participated in the Easter Egg Design Contest on the 24 Mar, there was much excitement from designing the Egg to the nomination of the Best Easter Egg design. Irshadi's design stood out amongst everyone's and he won. The students were then tasked with bringing along their material to participate in the Easter Egg Decoration Competition during the event. As teachers, we were thrilled to see the students' enthusiasm to do their best in they do aside from their academics.

Just before 16:30, all the colour markers, confetti, paint, paintbrush and not forgetting many hard boiled eggs as well as egg holder casing were put together. We could tell the students were really excited to put their designs to reality as they each got one egg and merry making has begun. One of the student, Aneesha has in fact prepared her own blown egg for decoration. As it was the first time that most students have ever made an easter egg, there was so much of laughter and fun. One of the students, Shawn even asked if he could eat the hard boiled egg instead of painting it.

The Easter Egg Decoration Competition proceeded as follows between 16:30 and 17:30:

1. Choose an egg
2. Cut out a suitable egg holder
3. Decorate the egg with available paint, markers and confetti and what have you
4. Have fun and be creative with decorating the egg holder
5 Nominate your favourite Easter egg

After the nomination of the Easter egg was over, there was much laughter and entertainment as we saw spontaneous student performances such as the Backstreet Boys , Comedian Dialogue and Mr Brian's Choir performance just to name a few. The performances was followed by the Student Awards presentations for their excellent academic achievements in the first term. They were Daniel Liew (Group 3), Isaac Thong (Group4), Danial Hakim (G5/6), Syafiq and Addison (J1) and Eu Jer who raised the most fund in the Tsunami Donation Drive. Last but the least, three Lucky Draw winners of the Tsunamis Donation Drive were also drawn in appreciation of the support. The eventful evening finally came to an end as we tucked into the catered dinner in celebration of a successful new term.

Honsbridge takes pride to provide all students a platform to excel in their Cambridge O Level tuition program along with active participation in extra curricular activities. Thank you all for the support and see us in action soon again!

As the term approaches to an end, our students will be taking their O Level Trial exams soon. There are many milestones that the students have achieved in the new term, we are pleased for them and the time has come to celebrate with the students their hard work.

In light of recent series of earthquakes in New Zealand, China and Japan and its devastating consequences. We will organise the end of term celebration to drive the Japan Tsunami Relief Donation. The students along with the support of the teachers have pledged to raise aid for the Earthquake victims as part of our corporate social responsibility. Our students are compassionate about the relief donation drive because they have pledged to raise RM1200. The students will collect donation token value of RM20 per ticket and all the funds will be accounted for to be channelled to Japan via http://worldvision.com.my/.

Dear readers,

Education in the world has evolved so much since the days when i was a student at CGSS in Singapore. Without a doubt, the single most dynamic tool that students today rely on is the internet rather than the textbooks and the library that i used to rely so much on. Nowadays, the time spent on the internet for learning in relation to studies is hard to gauge, as it all depends on the discipline of the student.

In Honsbridge, teachers maximises the contact time with the students as learning is so much more than learning from the internet. During the teaching contact time, learning takes the students back to the very basic of being an independent learner. The students learn to take notes in good handwriting on their subject notebook, students learn to have time management in doing quiz and tests. Students learn to be disciplined by being focus and not checking on their mobile phones etc.

FUN learning with Chemistry experiments

Dear readers,

Recently on the 17 Feb, I had the chance to involve students in conducting their own chemistry experiments in the laboratory. Apart from having fun and applying key concepts in the topic on Rates of Reaction. The safe use of chemicals such as using secondary containment and safety spectacles; data recording in the chemistry report were discussed. This was part of bringing out the discipline required of students to do higher science.

Readers of Chemistry will learn that the speed of reaction depends on five major factors. The examination questions base on this key concept are in fact easy to score. Student should understand in terms of molecular movement with respect to:
1. Temperature of the reaction mixture
2. The surface area of the reactants
3. The pressure of gaseous reactants
4. Presence of catalyst
5. Concentration of the reactants

In this investigation, the students namely Syaqil, Faheem and Isaac (first left, middle and right) have charged equal volume of Vinegar (Acetic Acid) of different temperature into the handmade volcano that contained equal amount of Baking Soda powder.

Observe the speed of reaction in the video, could you tell which volcano erupted the fastest and hence the temperature of vinegar is the highest?

Cambridge O Level Results Nov 2010 Exam session

Dear readers,

Passion in teaching and mentoring students does wonders in helping them to ace their exams. Along with the students' preserverance and commitment to exceling in their studies, they genuinely do very well in a short time.

We are delighted to share with everyone that our graduates in the second batch of O Level Exam session have done well. Given the graduates have completed the One Year Fast Track O Level tuition program and they have achieved results being A*, A, B and C in English, Combined Science, Math, Business Studies and Bible Knowledge, as teachers and parents we are really proud of the achievements. The results did not come easy as a lot of extra lessons and hard work have been put in by the teachers and students, hard work and faith have really paid off :)
Micheleine, who dropped in to share with everyone her O Level results. We wish her the very best for her further education in the States.

Gratitudes come in many shapes and forms, here was a cake from Shaun and Mich on their last day in Honsbridge. The chocolate and vanilla sponge cake tasted great!

Teachers in Honsbridge are motivated than ever that with our dedication along with the students' commitment, great things can be accomplished together! We are so happy to have made a positive difference to the lives of our seven O Level graduates. Each of them have now gone on to do A level or equivalent in Malaysia and Singapore.

The time has now come again to mentor our third batch of students in their O Level exams in the coming May 2011 session.

CNY Celebration on the Jan 26, 2011

Dear one and all,

In a short space of time since the new academic year has begun, students in the Fast Track O Level Tuition program have engaged in a dynamic learning curriculum to drive discipline and independent learning.

Indeed, the students have worked hard. When the time has come to bring in the Year of the Rabbit, we have decided to organise the Chinese New Year celebration on the Jan 26 (Wed 13:00 - 15:30), 2011 with catered lunch followed by performances for students to recharge and rebond in Honsbridge. The celebration has brought together the support of many parents, students and teachers, without which, sweet success would not have been possible.

Here is a special compilation of the celebration by Mr Dom for all of us during the CNY Prize Winnning Ceremony today.

As teachers, we are delighted to see our students encouraging one another to out perform themselves each time, whose talents are only limited by themselves, like wise in their academic achievements. Students are encouraged to"Engage, Experience & Be Ambitious!" and we felt every sense of it during this CNY celebration, that we have dedicated to the students.

To all the parents, teachers and students,

We are delighted to welcome back the returning teachers, students and the freshies of the Fast Track O Level Tuition Program and the Lower O Level Tuition Program.

There are now many value added features in the Honsbridge learning curriculum in the new year. We trust that the additional subjects such as English Literature and Biology will complete the subjects available to all the students.

We have also spear headed the Honsbridge Enrichment Classes, such as Music Appreciation classes proudly conducted by Mr Brian JohnYim and two sessions of PE weekly. Mandarin classes are also being introduced to all the students. The students have found the Enrichment classes an amazing way to learn and have fun with all the students. The Enrichment classes will serve as platforms to give the students an all-round learning curriculum. Bravo to all the teachers who have contributed to the success of the Enrichment Curriculum.

Heart Warming and Awesome Celebration To Bring On the New Year 2011

After a term of solid academic training and exam preparation for all of our students. The World of Christmas Theme promised as much fun for everyone as we anticipated! The idea was to engage all the students to set up the booth of the countries that they have chosen. The students were tasked to sell tickets to raise fund for tree planting at the North Selangor Peat Swamp Forest. The Best Christmas Booth and the Booth that raised the most funds have been awarded a prize each. The guests, students and teachers were treated to a carnival-like food signature of the country and fun games in the World of Christmas booths tour and performances from the students and guests.

The students have demonstrated what it takes to do Business in the most fun way of the following skills and attitude
1. the division of labour to set up booth and logistics arrangement
2. the creativity to draw up the food menu and games to attract customers-advertising
3. the promotion pitch = 'cheers' to compete for the guests between stalls were hilarious
4. the responsibility of executing the duties of the various booths especially the ticket and reception booths.
5. the importance and tremendous sense of pride and duty to bring on the sweet success as a team effort

These are some of the skills that our students have acquired to further their academic progression and career. As teachers and mentors of our students, we are blessed to have created and supported yet another platform for our talented students to excel and inspire them beyond. We look forward to yet another student event to involve students and everyone in a bigger scale.

Academy Life at Honsbridge

Dear readers,

At Honsbridge, we have had yet another rewarding and eventful last academic term in 2010. As we gave our best wishes to our graduates who have completed their O Level exams this Oct/Nov 2010, we are busy preparing our next batch of O Level candidates who will be sitting theirs in May/Jun 2011.

Our teachers namely myself, Mr. Dominic, Ms. Jenny along with Mr. David are very pleased that our lessons have kept the students on their toes, because the students' learnings were assessed through weekly quiz, tests, games and winter checks. We have also achieved great success with the self study prep sessions of which students have benefited from peer learning.

Aside from academic progression, the students have benefited from the weekly PE sessions of which they have played Futsal, Rugby and Captain's ball. In support of Rugby, I have played along with the students myself to take advantage of the fact that the students won't tackle me as much! Indeed, my team won the game in that session :)

Students nowadays need a lot of motivation to keep them focus of their academic objectives, the O Level. I have learnt that students feel motivated when I shared with them experiences of my pathway to academic success and life abroad. My next story for the students will be my academy life at the National University of Singapore, University of Hong Kong and the University of Liverpool. I wish that all the students out there would enjoy and value theirs too as much as i do!

Fun with Physics Experiments!

On 7 Oct 2010, Micheleine and Joshua were tasked to verify two key concepts in Physics.
1. The incident angle is equal to the reflected angle.
2. The image is as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of the mirror.

The apparatus involved protractor, plain paper, card board, pins, pencil, ruler and mirror. Both Micheleine and Joshua took turns to carry out the steps in the experimental procedure, it was the observation of the image in the mirror that was found to be quite tricky to align with the pins. Overall, the two experiments went well and the fun was over in less than half an hour. The two key concepts have been verified to be true indeed.

In the O Level physical science exams, questions such as describing an experiment to verify the law of reflection and image distance is equal to object distance are very common. Students are advised to write out the procedure along with a diagram and table of values to support the answers. Hello all,

As the Cambridge O Level exams have begun, our graduating students will begin their new journey as they part with Honsbridge. We wish them the very best for their examinations. In the meantime, we have planned additional classes just to be there for them.

Since the term has started on 16 Aug 2010, we have discovered and rediscovered our students's academic progression and talent. It was time to celebrate yet another fruitful half term with all our students at the Honsween Return fashion!

The programme consists of building a firm foundation in English, Mathematics, Science followed by an exam oriented study pathway to the IGCSE/ O Level exams in 2014.

Students typically need five IGCSE/ O Level exams at grades A to C to be sure of a place in the higher education of a good college. At the end of the programme, students can begin studying for programmes such as A-levels, the International Baccalaureate (IB), Southern Australian Matriculation (SAM), Canadian Matriculation Programme (CPU) the and American Degree Programme (ADP).

Dear Students,

Here is wishing all the challengers out there the very best for your upcoming exams. Burning the midnight oil is not necessary the way forward, but chances are you will be mugging at whatever odd times that best suit you.

I remember when i used to prepare for exams wherever i was, night time was always the best time for me to study as it was cool and quite. With no distraction whatsover, i had soft music on and had a few aroma candles burnt, i would work out all the sums and essays as time ticked by. The period of exam preparation was productive as i checked off the topics that i had worked on day by day. Along with classmates and teachers who were always around for company, i didn't feel alone in the battle.

The visualisation of success and fruits of labour always motivate me to work hard everytime. I hope you will be motivated to achieve your dream goals in the exams. There are many ways to help you succeed in exams and life. You may visualise the sweet success, set targets, set timelines, reward yourself when you have achieved a piece of work.

" Like most parents, we take our children's education very seriously. We give them the best quality of education we can afford. In January 2009, our daughter Lauren just completed her home schooling. Progression for her is to continue with the course to prepare for the SAT exams, however we decided together with Lauren that Cambridge GCE 'O' Levels would be a better option. We found Honsbridge Academy through the internet.

We met up with Emma and Alicia at Starbucks Kota Damansara because at the time their centre was still undergoing renovation. We placed our trust in Honsbridge to take Lauren through her 'O' Levels despite the fact that the centre was new and Lauren was the first student.

Over time we have seen Lauren progressed and excelled in her studies. Not to mention the additional pre exam support classes and coaching provided by Honsbridge at no additional charge was simply an outstanding demonstration of Honsbridge's committment to see every student succeed with flying colours.

The Root Is Bitter But The Fruit Is Sweet

13 Aug 2010 marked the day that our inaugural graduates will learn about their O Level results for their May exams. The wait was finally over. As teachers, we kept our fingers and toes crossed that the results will be what we have worked so hard for our students. The subjects for examinations were namely English, Mathematics, Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry), History, Business Studies and Bible Knowledge.

There was no word to describe our pride when we learnt that our most outstanding student, Lauren has scored straight As for her six Cambridge O Level subjects since joining Honsbridge in March 2009. The excellent results have always been expected since the trial examinations in May, but to know that Lauren has indeed scored distinctions in all her O Level examinations mean all the world to the teachers at Honsbridge. It is our greatest hope that Lauren's achievements will inspire all our current students that they can achieve theirs too! As Lauren has put it so well to everyone during the Speech Day, "I have learnt that our teachers’ responsibility is to guide us, not to guarantee our success in doing well academically. That is our job, as students. There is no shortcut. We must put in extra time and hard work if we wish to achieve top grades. Most importantly, I feel that we should study hard for ourselves, and not for anyone else." Lauren, she has the wonderful traits of a role model student to all our current students. As her teachers, we shall be making plans to support her scholarship applications along with her strong extra curricular activities within and outside of Honsbridge Academy.

As i await to hear more good news today, Elise texted us to say how happy she was to receive straight Bs in her three O Level examinations. Elise's achievements is especially remarkable as she joined Honsbridge in Aug 2009. In an even shorter space of time than Lauren, Elise has developed so much that she is now a confident and self driven young lady who has now embarked on her Law degree studies.

To all the students who are preparing for their Examinations this Oct, the root is bitter but the fruit is sweet. With hardwork and determination, you will be getting the fruits of your labour next Feb.

Term Break - A Time For Honsbridge To Recharge

Dear readers,

Honsbridge Academy has taken time off to recharge especially after working so hard to prepare our graduating students for their O Level/ IGCSE exams in May.

During the term break, i am taking time to reflect what has really happened in the last term. There had been many 'firsts' for all of our parents, teachers and students altogether.

There was the first graduating class of students whom our teachers have worked so hard alongside with. History, English, Mathematics, Business Studies and Bible Knowledge were the examinations that our students have signed up for. We have had extra classes to coach them and trial examinations after another. The students have really raised their bars and as teachers we can now relax while we can. Come the new term, our next batch of students will be taking their exams this Oct.

There was the first Tree Planting event in Raja Musa Peat Swamp Forest in Selangor that our students along with the teachers were a part of. As part of the Earth Day, we created awareness amongst our students and parents to grow tree and be part of a larger movement within Malaysia. See the action that day in the video here.

There was the Honsbridge Day Polo Tee Shirt that was revealed to our students. It was a gift from Honsbridge and the students love it. Thank you to Mr Dominic whose creations never fail to bring much excitement. We have since set the Honsbridge Day to coincide with PE day for everyone to wear the shirt. Students have found themselves to be disciplined in more ways than punctuality for lessons and homework, but also for their attire on Honsbridge Day.

There was the Business Study Trip at Goodway Rubber Industry in Nilai. It was an eventful day and we are ever grateful to the organisers for all the learning that our students and teachers have received. Students today have many means to learn other than in the classrooms. At Honsbridge, we offer student the chance to go on study field trip as part of the fast pace Cambridge O Level/ IGCSE curriculum. Our students typically have to learn and apply their knowledge in a space of a year and two years, a day outside the classroom must be made worthwile for the students as it is a teaching day lost otherwise.

Between the preparation for students' end of term examinations and Speech Day. There was the making of Honsbridge Year Book 2009/2010. The book was a gift for our graduating students and the publication process itself has provided fun learning space for all the students. The memories and pride of our students are evident in 40 pages of colourful content. Without the motivation and mentoring from our teachers and the support of the students, the yearbook will not have been materialised. So well done us!

There was the first Futsal session which has now been a part of the PE curriculum along with the sessions in the field. The Futsal sessions have proven popular as teachers and students have had so much fun together. It was exciting to find myself in the futsal field for the first time and playing with the students themselves. I had so much fun that i would not otherwise have had. For the students, it will be their duty to dress appropriately for the sports and to gain parental consent before PE lessons are allowed. At Honsbridge, we believe sport is an integral part of the learning curriculum. Students are encouraged to benefit from the value added lesson as time allocated for it is not to be taken for granted. Safety is also taken seriously at Honsbridge and it is therefore our duty to have the first aid kit with us if we need it.

Honsbridge Inaugural Speech Day was a time for gratitude, sporty fun, yummy food and celebration of our success with the graduating class. Our students, parents and teachers all came together to mark the beginning of another academic progression for our leaving students. It was an emotional and moving celebration. I also harboured the hopes that our current students will be inspired to soar as high as our graduates when it was their time!

It is our greatest passion that we continue to develop eager-to-learn achievers to succeed at Honsbridge. We give thanks again to all our ever supportive parents and students who make our day always rewarding!

Dear parents and students,

The Speech Day Barbeque was held on the Jun 19, the action packed event started at 15:30 as badminton telematch, graduation ceremony, speeches and presentation, prize giving and barbeque party filled the day and evening with much excitement for everyone! Indeed, speech day does not necessary need to be all speeches and performances.

Our Speech day marked the amazing journey of Honsbridge Academy. We celebrated Honsbridge's inaugurable graduation for our students who have completed the One year express O Level program. It was also a time for us to give thanks to all who have helped to attain our success today. The outstanding achievements of our graduates will invariably inspire our current students to attain theirs.

I like to share with students who were absent, a speech given by their senior, Lauren Tan in recognition for her outstanding academic achievements - 5 As in her Trial O Level Exams on the Express O level Program.

"Good evening teachers, parents and friends,

I joined Honsbridge In 2009 and at that time, I was their first student.

I was previously in a homeschooling centre so when the time came for me to prepare for my O levels, they didn’t provide the needed guidance. That was a very stressful time for me because I had nowhere to go. My mum and I did a lot of searching and called many tutors and tuition centres but none were suitable. Luckily, my mum stumbled upon Honsbridge through the internet. We decided to just take a chance and meet up with the tutors.

I remember meeting Ms Emma and Ms Alicia at Starbucks, opposite to Honsbridge, as it was not ready yet. It was still being painted. I guess I can say that I had the privilege of seeing Honsbridge in its making.

When I met Ms Emma, I was very impressed because she was the only person who could give me a clear explanation about the differences between the IGCSEs and GCEs. Also, as she told me more about the academy, I was greatly encouraged because commitment and dedication was evident.

During my time in Honsbridge, I have seen the “family” grow bigger and bigger. I have met many wonderful people on the way. There have been many ups and downs, but in the end, there is always a lesson to be learnt. It has definitely been a rewarding journey.

If I were to describe the atmosphere here in one word, it would be “motivating”. The way the teachers believe in us is so encouraging. It still amazes me how they manage to always keep their spirits up and keep us motivated.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank my parents because without them, I wouldn’t have been able to come to this academy. They have never pressured me to get the best grades, but have always trusted that I would do my very best.

I have learnt that our teachers’ responsibility is to guide us, not to guarantee our success in doing well academically. That is our job, as students. There is no shortcut. We must put in extra time and hard work if we wish to achieve top grades. Most importantly, I feel that we should study hard for ourselves, and not for anyone else.

Again, I’d like to express my gratitude to Honsbridge – the perfect solution for a homeschooler. So thank you Ms Emma, Mr Dom, Ms Jenny and all my friends who have made Honsbridge a more colorful place for me.

The Cambridge O Level/ IGCSE exams are finally over! I hope that all the students' hardwork had paid off in their exams, and here is a big toast to greater achievements to all students.

Since the beginning of the new term this Apr, our teachers along with the students have started to compile the yearbook at Honsbridge. It is yet another ambitious project to involve students academically and in extra-curricular activities. We have received numerous contributions from students their artwork, essays, stories, students' account of honsbridge events over the year and most of all our everyday classes!

As you can see, there were many opportunities for the students to explore. To top it all, there was also a contest open to all for the best student profile write up. The winner shall win a mystery gift! As the entries for the contest grew, we have had the pleasure to read all of them with delight! The long awaited nomination for the winner was carried out with much humour and fun on the Honsbridge Speech Day Barbeque Party, 19 Jun 2010.

Dear parents and students,

It is time of sharing the sweet success that we have had with our students over the course of time. Coaching students and monitoring students' progress are two complimentary strategies towards academic success.

Coaching and monitoring is what we achieve for the students at Honsbridge. It is like a continuous cycle as students are expected to turn in their assignments on time. Punctuality for lessons is also stressed upon the students so much that penalty exists for a reason. A day in day out routine for all of us.

We thank our dedicated teachers for their passion and our enthusiastic students for their valuable feedback and for contributing so well in their lessons.

Academic progress feedback

We emphasises on personal achievements of our students as regular meetings with parents and students are held every term. It is our pride when we receive strong feedback from students that they have learnt a lot on English, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Business Studies, History and Additional Math in a short space of time. The students have found the amount of homework and notes very useful in helping them to apply their knowledge in the problem sums. Where students have not performed to expectation, we have implemented additional supervised study prep lessons to help them achieve their goals. This monitoring process have kept parents or guardians informed about matters concerning the student’s welfare and academic achievement.

Students who have been in their last term of O Level programme, they have received extra academic supervision and trial examinations to improve their academic competency. Tree Planting-An Extraordinary Green Affair

Hello all,

Together with the parents and students @ Honsbridge, we are making a difference by making regular contribution to the Forest Care fund, the fund goes to support the tree seedling and planting projects.

On the early morning of 24 Sat, Sat. Along with our students & teachers, some 500 volunteers gathered at the Raja Musa Peat Swamp Forest to plant trees in conjunction of the Earth Day.

We started the day with breakfast at the Kayu Restaurant that is nearby Honsbridge, before we set off in our cars to the forest. The journey didn't take very long as we arrived to see many cars and buses parked just outside the forest.

The spirit of tree huggers was immense as we saw hundreds of people clad in boots, hats, gloves and garden tools. The hundreds of tree huggers were like season tree planters and we felt great to be part of the worthy cause. But we didn't expect to get as wet as what was to come. The FUN has begun!!!

Greetings! The new term has started for the students and we are all excited to develop students well and beyond.

Chemistry Volcano Experiment

Hello All,

Just before the first term of the year ended on 29 Mar, i gave the class a chemistry experiment to prepare for the last lesson. As with all experiments, the students learnt to write a report and along with it have a lot of fun setting up the experiments.

Title: My Volcano Experiment

Aim: To study the rate of reactions

Equipments: As seen in the photos

Procedure: Basically, we kept everything constant and we varied the temperature of the vinegar. We used a fixed quantity of hot, ice cold and ambient vinegar. We used the hair dryer to warm up the vinegar; we used an ice /salt bath to cool the vinegar down to below zero.

Conclusion: The rate of reaction between hot vinegar and sodium carbonate was the fastest, followed by ambient vinegar and cold vinegar. This is because, molecules at high temperature have high kinetic energy that will collide more frequently and at greater speed to produce effective reation.

Twin Happiness Celebration

Hello dear one and all,

Our Twin Happiness celebration held on the 27 Feb, Sat was on many levels a first for the students, parents and Honsbridge.

Let us talk about the dynamic team effort of MFS aka business club, we saw the students of different backgrounds unite and contribute to the awesome Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year decorations.

The many lanterns, lightings and handicrafts were amazing. Honsridge has transformed yet again! The students have made cupcakes, jellies and brought sausage rolls, pasta so good that we couldn't get enough of it among many food for the occasion.

Along with the reception and refreshment booths, we have also set up two more bazaar booths, the 'Grow a Tree' and the 'Art' booths. The highlight of the evening was definitely the students' performances, the loving crowd and the hearty food.

As i started to talk to our guests and all about the huge success that we have had with The 'Grow A Tree' Campaign, i felt so proud of all the students and everyone who have made Twin Happiness an event to remember. Here is special thank you to parents, friends and students.

Indeed, the great amount of preparation and hardwork that everyone in MFS has put in had paid off! You are all my favourite :) Look out for our next event, 'Tree planting' in conjunction of the World Forest Day, 30 Mar 2010. This tree planting event has been made possible due to our 'Grow a Tree' ticket token fund raising success. A big "Thank you" to all who have supported.

Meanwhile, our teachers and all the students will be working hard for our upcoming O Level exams this May-June. Let the race to the O Level success begin now!

Twin Happiness Party Invitation on Feb 27, 2010

Hello friends of Honsbridge and our parents!!

Are you ready to be entertained and do your part for a good cause??? We are celebrating the Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day on the 27 Feb, Saturday held between 16:00 and 20:00. Hence, the theme "Twin Happiness". Our students of MFsquare Business Club are organising several performances and running a bazaar for the special occasion.

In return for your support, there will be door gift, dance, singing and special performances by our students, dinner reception and lucky draw.

These were the few photos that were taken today before we broke up for Chinese New Year. We couldn't get everyone then but we have Mrs Jenny, our English teacher.

Meet Miss Vimala, she is our other English teacher and we feel like our Honsbridge family is growing yet again.Notice that we were all in our sporty attire, this was taken right after the Captain's ball game. Everyone was highly spirited during the game, weren't we?! Yes, Dom and I were the goal keepers for the game, phew! It was tiring enough just catching those balls. The teams have worked us hard, but it was such good fun. Hip hip, hurray to everyone who played their hearts out that day!

Honsbridge Highlights in 2009

2009 was a great year with lots of fun, joy and growth to provide our students the best to excel in their O Level exams.

We started small, but the Honsbridge family have grown quite a bit. This post is dedicated especially to our students, parents and friends whom have been part of Honsbridge Academy.

2009 marked the establishment of Honsbridge Academy at Dataran Sunway

We had our first party aka. 'Transformer Party' on the July 4, 2009

this challenged our student's creativity to transform themselves.

We had a dance session and pot-luck and the company was great.

Then the 'Honsween Party' on the Oct 29, 2009

Christmas Bash on the Dec 5, 2010 was amongst the last event but most heart warming for all of us.
