Honsbridge Event Board Second Quarter 2010

Dear Parents, Greetings! The new term has started for the students and we are all excited to develop students well and beyond. From your valuable feedback and support and also of the students, we have tuned in a few changes for the better. For instance, we have revamped the timetable to include more hours of study supervise prep time. Chemistry Volcano Experiment

Hello All, Just before the first term of the year ended on 29 Mar, i gave the class a chemistry experiment to prepare for the last lesson. As with all experiments, the students learnt to write a report and along with it have a lot of fun setting up the experiments. Title: My Volcano Experiment Aim: To study the rate of reactions Equipments: As seen in the photos Procedure: Basically, we kept everything constant and we varied the temperature of the vinegar. We used a fixed quantity of hot, ice cold and ambient vinegar. We used the hair dryer to warm up the vinegar; we used an ice /salt bath to cool the vinegar down to below zero. Conclusion: The rate of reaction between hot vinegar and sodium carbonate was the fastest, followed by ambient vinegar and cold vinegar. This is because, molecules at high temperature have high kinetic energy that will collide more frequently and at greater speed to produce effective reation.
