HON, HON ON THE RANGE

HON, HON THE RANGE! On the 13 th of December, the teachers of Honsbridge went on a one stay at the Eagle Ranch Resort in Port Dickson. Eagle Ranch is a Western-themed resort where Malaysians can relive their cowboy fantasies while relaxing and dining in places inspired by the Wild West. But Honsbridge teachers aren’t here to re-enact the OK Corral. They’re here for a team-building exercise. The teachers start their trip with a sea-rafting exercise near the beach. Yes, there’s a beachside near a Western-themed resort because anything is possible! Anyway, with the help of the resort’s guides, the teachers began by building a raft made with a stack of bamboo and barrels, tying them together with ropes under the hot sun. They then bring the raft to the sea and row it. Their mission: Get the red flag floating on the sea. There are setbacks; such as the uncooperative sea currents; but despite these, the teachers managed to get the flag and returned to the beach. All of these

Let's Science at Honsbridge!

A new batch of scientific models has arrived at Honsbridge. They may look like toys, but they do help a lot in teaching Honnets about science. One model is a mini wind tunnel which will help Honnets understand aerodynamics. This model consists mostly of an airplane-shaped figure and a fan encased in a small plastic tunnel. Once turned on, Honnets can see how a plane can flow along or against the air as it flies. Another is a model shaped like a miniature roller coaster, including loops and slides. The model works by sliding the model down and watch it go round the loops without falling. This equipment teaches Honnets about centrifugal forces. Next is a model which simulates wind power by winding up a red fan to generate air so that another fan turns. The fast the fan turns, the more it creates electrical energy to power the light bulb. More than showing how energy works, this small model could inspire Honnets to discover newer, cleaner alternatives to fossil fue

MNPSC Public speaking 2017

Staring on Saturday 25 th November, The Malaysian National Public Speaking Competition (MNPSC) was held at Honsbridge. The aim was to discover talented speakers that can deliver various topics eloquently. The MNPSC is overseen by Mr Bakhtiar. The MNPSC had three preliminary rounds on Saturday and those who qualified were qualified to enter the Quarterfinals. This competition was divided into Seniors and Juniors. The Seniors were represented by Kevin, Nisha, Rachel and Hariz. While the Juniors were represented by Anderson and Matthew. In all three preliminary rounds, everyone was qualified to the Quarterfinals except Hariz. The next day, the Honnets went through the Quarterfinal, Semi-final and Final rounds. In the Finals, the Juniors were given ‘My Aspirations’ as their topic while the Senior spoke about the topic of ‘Once Upon A Time…’ In the end Kevin came 1 st as a Senior while Matthew came 3 rd as a Junior speaker. It was a tough competition but despi

Secret Santa

Image
Last Friday on 24 th of April, we at Honsbridge had a Secret Santa. It’s where Honnets and teachers exchange gifts without knowing who the giver is for Christmas. Some of the Honnets got what they wanted, like books, stationery etc. but most of them got a lot more unexpected gifts. It was a fun, if a little frustrating, Christmas moment for Honsbridge. After the Honnets went home exhausted from the exams and exchanging gifts, the teachers too held their own Secret Santa party. Each teacher gets to exchange gifts based on what they want. Then there was photo op where the teachers gather together in front of the Christmas decorations proudly showing off their opened gifts. What about you? What gift did your Secret Santa sent you? Merry Christmas, everyone!

Christmas 2017 at Honsbridge

Image
Christmas is here and bringing good cheer to Honsbridge. Honnets have gathered together to celebrate both Christmas and also the end of the school year. After months of gruelling preparation for the exams, the Honnets finally gets to relief tension. First up for the Christmas Bash is the Go Green Parade, which showcases talented students making clothes out of recycled material. This is also where cosplay fans gets to express their love for their favourite movies, comics and anime with costumes made of soda cans and paper boxes. The Parade is divided into four Houses; Yellow, Green, White and Purple. In the end, Yellow house gets first place in the Go Green Parade. Still, all houses were given hampers and special gifts. Speaking of gifts, there was a Secret Santa Exchange among the Honnets, where they receive gifts from secret givers within the school. While some Honnets get an unexpected gift, overall, they’re happy to receive them. The teachers to

Camping in the City

Image
Once again, Honsbridge returns to adventure as they venture into deep, remote rainforests of….Cheras, KL? That’s right, the Honnets are having a field trip to the City Camping Park at Cheras. The Park is located near the Cheras Leisure Mall. Our teachers, Mr Kuldip, Mr Tan, Ms Kok and Mr Jason accompany the Honnets while taking the Honnets on a MRT around 8:30 from our school to the Taman Mutiara station. From there, the Honnets must walk all the way to the Park. Once they’ve arrived at the City Camping Park at 9:00pm, the Honnets were given a program briefing. The camp director, Mr Charlie Ng briefed the Honnets about safety and survival in the jungle. After that, the Honnets were taught to make clove hitches and square lashings. By 11:30am, the Honnets learned to make tables to prepare for cooking lunch. The Park directors taught them how to collect cooking utensils and food rations. Most importantly, the Honnets were taught how to collect firewood and sta

Honsbridge Art Club

Image
Every Monday, starting from 13 th of November, Honsbridge has set up an Art Club with a purpose to instill love and passion for arts and crafts. First Monday begins with our art instructors teaching Honnets teaching shapes and colours through doodling. Doodling, often misunderstood as merely chicken scratching done by immature people, actually has proven to be good for brain development as it helps doodlers remember information better. Doodling may also be one of the better alternatives to fidget spinners or fidgeting with phones. This will prove useful for Honnets later on who will be facing the rigorous challenges of Cambridge IGCSE. Aside from doodling, other activities too will be involved such as painting, sculpture, scrapbooking and of course, drawing. Honnets will also be taught about art history in which they will meet famous artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Leonardo Da Vinci. The Honsbridge Art Club helps in bringing out creative and artistic sid

PREFECT PIONEER PROGRAM 2017

Image
Long ago (that is 26 th October 2017), three teachers, Mrs Samantha, Mr Bakhtiar and Mr Dom, had a meeting. They have devised a plan to encourage leadership among the Honnets. Thus born, the PREFECT PIONEER PROGRAM! The PREFECT PIONEER PROGRAM (3P for short) is program to elect leaders among the Honnets. Its goal is to create mature, responsible leaders out of Honnets. What is a prefect? In the ancient Roman Empire, a prefect was a formal title given to officials in charge of an area. Today, Honsbridge confers the title of prefect upon selected Honnets who will act as leaders in this centre. The Honnets will be chosen as prefects by going through this process: Applicants must fill in the application form for the role of prefect Applicants will then be interviewed A team of students will be nominated An organization chart will be finalized A team of prefects will elected. A prefect must display leadership qualities such as confidence and charism

Achievia at Honsbridge 2017

Image
Achievia, an education placement centre with aims to GPS children’s success , drops by at Honsbridge on 11 th October for a workshop. Their mission: to lift up the Honnets’ spirits and prepare them for success as they face the challenging IGCSE exams. The organizers, Joie Chung and Ken Chaw, had brought along activities and ideas that will changed the way the Honnets view success in life. First up was an Ice-breaking event where Achievia encouraged Honnets, including teachers, to get to know each other through games and small talk. This is to break the tension between Honnets while encouraging more interaction and socialization between them. Next was a classic game of Musical Chairs. The bigger purpose of this game was to find out what type of person are the Honnets. Are they an observer, commentator or participant ? Those who don’t play Musical Chairs are just observers and commentators while those who do are the participants. The point of this game isn’t just to w

MOONCAKES AND FRIENDSHIP 2017

Image
It’s Mid-Autumn Festival at the Honsbridge International. Originally an occasion to celebrate a successful harvest, it has become an event for all to enjoy with families and friends. The most well-known moments of the Mid-Autumn Festival every year are the lanterns and of course, the delicious mooncakes. Which is exactly what Honsbridge has given to the dedicated staff of this centre. Not just merely a treat, it’s also a symbolic gift to thank the hard-working staff in teaching Cambridge IGCSE to the young, hopeful Honnets. Mooncakes aren’t the only thing shared. Honnets too Share The Experience by recommending their friends to Honsbridge. Special thanks to Johan, William Tan and William Chai, who referred their friends to this learning centre. Each will receive RM300 for their efforts while their friends will receive RM300 rebate on their tuition fees. Like the goddess Chang’e who shone the light on the world at night, Honsbridge too shines th

PREPPING FOR DEBATE 2017: THE BRITISH PARLIAMENTARY STYLE

Image
The past few days since 3rd of July sees our fellow Honnets training for the Debate Competition of 2017. This training is overseen by Mr Bakhtiar, who guides the Honnets into improving their presentation skills and confidence for the upcoming debate. Before training began, the Honnets were introduced to the format preferred by many debate competition known as the British Parliamentary Style. What is a British Parliamentary (BP) style Debate? A BP debate, which lasts five or seven minutes, consists of two sides: The Government and The Opposition. The all sides are split into four factions: 1.
