Lantern making competition happened this week as the Honnets compete in making lanterns in time for the Mid-Autumn Festival, aka the Mooncake Festival. Lanterns and mooncakes are part of the Mid-Autumn Festival since centuries ago, that began in ancient China. The term ‘Mid-Autumn’ first appeared in the book the Rites of Zhou but as a time and season. It became a popular festival during the Tang Dynasty as people use the occasion to celebrate the bountiful harvest and to worship the moon. Legend has it that Chang’E, the Goddess of the Moon was once the wife of the great archer, Hou Yi, who shot down nine suns with his arrows to save China and spared one sun to gave light. Chang’E became Goddess after she swallowed an elixir of immortality, flew to and lived on the moon. At the Physcial Education Centre on every Wednesday, Honsbridge has introduced the PE fitness test routine for all the students. The fitness test gives the added discipline required of all the students, students will receive a record of their personal fitness overtime and discover their strengths and weakness in a new fun way. Aside from the fitness test, the students would always have time to enjoy a heart pumping game of Futsal and Badminton.

On 7 Oct 2010, Micheleine and Joshua were tasked to verify two key concepts in Physics. 1. The incident angle is equal to the reflected angle. 2. The image is as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of the mirror. The apparatus involved protractor, plain paper, card board, pins, pencil, ruler and mirror. Both Micheleine and Joshua took turns to carry out the steps in the experimental procedure, it was the observation of the image in the mirror that was found to be quite tricky to align with the pins. Overall, the two experiments went well and the fun was over in less than half an hour. The two key concepts have been verified to be true indeed. In the O Level physical science exams, questions such as describing an experiment to verify the law of reflection and image distance is equal to object distance are very common.
