Celebrating unity on Sports Day

It's 2nd of March 2017, another year for the annual Honsbridge Sports Day at the Panasonic National Sports Centre in Shah Alam. Students from all over Honsbridge, along with Stellar Academy gather together for this auspicious event to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and athleticism.

Students are divided into four different coloured houses, each inspired by famous superheroes: The white house is called the White Tigers; the Purple House the Phantoms; the Green House the Hulks; and the Yellow House is Wolverines.

The Sports Day began with a cheerleading event where each house showcase their moves with colourful banners and spectacular stunts. These stunts are inspired by the superheroes representing them; for example, the Hulks & Wolverines roar with furious pride for their houses. Each house also showcase colourful banners with said superheroes emblazoned on them personifying the spirit of their house.

Soon, the houses compete with each other in various events such as running, relay race, 4-legged race and spoon & ping-pong. There are lots of heartbreak, agony, anger and determination as each runner representing different houses face both defeat and victory. While during the 4-legged race, each house demonstrates teamwork as they pace across the track with their legs tied together with their teammates.

Meanwhile, an ambulance was standing by in case any of the students injured themselves.

Food & refreshments are provided by Mr. Simon Yap, one of Honsbridge's students' parents with McDonald’s burgers and pies along with Ribena canned drinks and bottles of 100 Plus. Though some of us do sneak out to the nearest stall to buy more burgers in case we’re too hungry.

In the end, the true winners of Sports Day is the entire Honsbridge Academy, who had dedicated themselves in organising the events. May the spirit of Honsbridge live on!

Burning the midnight oil is not necessary the way forward, but chances are you will be mugging at whatever odd times that best suit you.
