WANT A BETTER FUTURE FOR YOUR KIDS? GO IGCSE!
Ever wanted a better future your
children? Bless them with more career opportunities and more chances to work in
other countries, thus ensuring a better life anywhere in the globe? Then you
might consider enrolling your child into IGCSE.
What is about the IGCSE that stands out
from all other exam certificates out there in Malaysia, especially SPM? Let’s
find out.
The International
General Certificate of Secondary Education or IGCSE is an
international version of the UK GCSE. It was introduced into the UK in 1988 to
replace the O-Level and CSE examinations. The GSCE functions almost like the
SPM in Malaysia. Secondary school students in the UK taking GCSE are given
exams based on subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science among others. The
IGCSE in Malaysia includes more local subjects such as the Malay Language.
The SPM is local equivalent
to the British GCSE, and provides the
opportunity for Malaysians to continue their studies to pre-university level.
However, SPM
certification is only for local universities. By taking IGCSE certification,
students can be more accepted into wider choices of overseas universities and
colleges. Thus, not only they can discover new cultures and expand their minds,
it also means they can network with global companies which would potentially
employ them.
There are actually
two types of IGCSE:
- · The Cambridge IGCSE
- · The EDEXCEL IGCSE
The Cambridge IGCSE
is the most well-known as it developed by the University of Cambridge
International Examinations.
The EDEXCEL IGCSE
is created by the EDEXCEL Limited, partially owned by Pearson PLC, a UK
publisher. It is basically a privatised version of the common IGCSE. Though
EDEXCEL claims its IGCSE is accepted worldwide, students should consult various
colleges and universities as some major institutions do not recognized
EDEXCEL’s IGCSE certification. The Cambridge
IGCSE, in comparison, is more widely accepted than the EDEXCEL IGCSE, thus
students have less concerns on whether they would be accepted or otherwise.
There is a
competition to the IGCSE which is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
Program. Developed in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland, the IB Diploma is as highly
regarded as the IGCSE. The IB Diploma boasts wider range of subjects for
students to study in-depth.
However, the IB is
far more demanding and puts more pressure on students to maintain their perfect
scores. The Cambridge IGCSE puts less pressure on students than the IB.
There are actually
other schools such as Cempaka and the ELC International School that teaches
IGCSE. At Honsbridge, our classes are relatively smaller, thus we have tighter
focus in guiding our students, while creating a steadier communication and
stronger bond between students and teachers.
These are the facts
of IGCSE as taught in Honsbridge. If you’re a parent who wishes to seek a
brighter future for their children, please consider the IGCSE as their entry to
that future.
