Last Saturday night on 28th May 2017, Honsbridge held the best 8th Speech Day ever at the Sunway University. Inspired by the Oscars, we rolled out the red carpet for Honnets, their parents and the staff of Honsbridge, celebrating our school’s success.

The Honnets and teachers dressed in the finest of clothes, appearing not unlike the celebrities of Hollywood. They took selfies and pictures at the photo booth while signed their well-wishes and names on the art board. There was joy, laughter and balloons everywhere.

Inside Jeffrey Cheah Hall, the 8th Speech Day began with a welcome speech presented by Ms Emma Furze. In her speech, Ms Emma gave her congratulations to all graduates. She also brought up that the 8th Speech Day is a milestone for Honsbridge and the 8th represents bronze. Hence, the inspiration behind the Oscar theme.

Mrs Emma then highlighted in her speech the four great pillars that harness Honsbridge students and graduates – knowledge; control; balance; and attitude. These pillars are what guided the Honnets throughout their years at Honsbridge.

After the speech by Ms Emma Furze, Honsbridge presented inspirational speeches via live and recorded in video and audio formats by Honsbridge graduates from G1 to G14, thanking the school. The inspirational speeches also congratulated fellow graduates of class G14 (October 2016) and G15 (May 2017).The graduates are now studying and working in places from all over the globe; in Monash University; Australia; UK; USA etc. These graduates were here to give encouragement to the Honnets.

Along with these inspiring speeches, Honsbridge presented Honsbridge’s Got Talent! Where Honnets from all over the school display feats of talents on stage. Honsbridge Got Talent featured:

Y8 led by Chelsie Mak dance to a Kpop hit Playing With Fire by BLACKPINK. The gang sashays away to the Kpop beat and to the excitement of the audience.

A dazzling Wushu display by Liew Yi Xian. The crowd cheered along as Yi Xian performs impressive feats of martial arts with swords and backflips.

Group Y10 gave heart-warming rendition of Streets of London as a tribute to Mike Mellor, who’s originally from England. The crowd held up their smartphones like lighters in conjunction with the song, while shouting out ‘Congrats!’ to Mr Mellor.
Another Y10, featuring Ee Ren and Sheryl Chan, presented girl-powered comedy sketch called ‘I Told You You’ll Regret This’ featuring R&B, more K-pop, dance and laughter.

Finally, Group Y9 made a dramatic cover of ‘Story of My Life’ originally sung by One Direction. The crowd clapped and gave standing ovation along with the song as the group sings.
In the end, it was the performance of ‘I Told You You’ll Regret This’ that won the Honsbridge Got Talent Award. Hats off to the winners for their girl power. For everyone else, the talented Honnets have given their best to entertain and delight the audience in the hall.

After the Speech Day ended, Honnets, teachers and guests alike are treated to dinner as provided by a catering company. The meal features delectable dishes such as roast chicken, spaghetti olio, fried rice and sweet & sour fish. Meanwhile, the Honnets also lend a helping hand in selling fruits and marshmallows bathed in a fountain of chocolate. What a delicious way to end a big night!

Thus we end this with wishing Honnets who’ve graduated to keep working hard and keep striving for a better, brighter future. Never rest on success and always learn from failure. Meanwhile, Honnets still in school should not give up, always up their game and be determined while studying.
